I Will Pursue You…

My daughter has put a cd in my car on which there is a song by Kim Walker Smith, called “I Will Pursue You”. It seems like every time I get in the car the cd is on this particular track. The song begins with the words:

Strip everything away
‘Til all I have is You.
Undo the veils
So all I see is You.
I will pursue You
I will pursue Your presence.

As Jesus took His final breath on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn, forever removing the barrier between God’s presence and man. But I think somehow we’ve put the veil back up on the curtain rods of our heart.

One of my favorite stories is in 1 Kings 19 where we find Elijah hiding in a cave. He’s done what God told him to do, but weariness and defeat have set in. He’s allowed all the “stuff” he’d been through to veil His vision and instead of pursuing God, he is running for his life. Then the Lord said,

“Go out and stand on the mountain
in the presence of the Lord,
for the Lord is about to pass by.”
1 Kings 19:11

Do you find yourself running from life instead of toward God? I awake in the middle of the night with the words of this song, “I will pursue You; I will pursue Your presence!” echoing in my ears. During the day, my heart cries out, “I can’t live without Your presence!”

What would happen if we were to allow God to strip away everything between us and Him? If we were to once again pull down the veils, would we then see His? What does He need to strip away, ‘til all you see is Him?
